Peter Bowen is Vice-President, Tax and Retirement Research for Fidelity Investments Canada ULC. Peter advises on complex tax issues that affect Fidelity’s mutual funds and their investors. He also leads Fidelity’s research into issues around planning for and living in retirement. He is frequently interviewed by the media and speaks about both tax and retirement to investors and financial advisors across Canada.
Before taking this role in 2012, Peter served as Fund Treasurer for the Fidelity mutual funds for 17 years. As Fund Treasurer, he oversaw financial, regulatory and operational matters that affect the funds and their investors, including all tax issues. He is a former chair of IFIC’s Taxation Committee. In addition, he was the architect of the T-SWP® series, an award-winning innovation launched by Fidelity in 2002.
Before joining Fidelity in 1994, he was a principal in the tax department of PricewaterhouseCoopers, primarily advising the mutual fund industry. He holds the Chartered Accountant (CPA, CA) designation, and obtained a BA in Economics from the University of Waterloo.
Peter is a recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal for volunteer services provided to Athletics Canada, where he acted as Honorary Treasurer for several years.
Kevin is the Managing Partner, Integrated Estate Solutions as well as Tax Advisor for the Conference for Advanced Life Underwriting (CALU). He has written and spoken extensively on taxation and estate planning topics. He is the author of the best-selling consumer book entitled The Essential Canadian Guide to Estate Planning (3rd Edition) as well as The Essential Canadian Tax Guide Series on Insured Buy-Sell Arrangements, Life Insurance Transfers and Income Splitting Planning (2nd Edition) (available on Amazon.ca).
Kevin is the Editor-in-Chief of the CALU Report and a contributes articles for Advisor.ca and Insurance Planning (Thomson Reuters). He is frequently interviewed and quoted in a number of financial publications on issues relating to tax and estate planning including the Globe and Mail.
Kevin is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, Canadian Bar Association and the Society for Tax and Estate Practitioners. He also sits on the board of the Royal Lepage Shelter Foundation and in his spare time enjoys writing murder-mysteries.
Paul Taylor is a Partner in the Ottawa office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP. Paul's practice focuses on issues relating to trust, estate, and incapacity planning and administration, as well as related tax issues. Paul has a wide range of experience in this area, including advising financial institutions, planning for individuals with cross-border, high value and complex assets, working with clients to provide for beneficiaries with disabilities, and preparing, amending, and interpreting trusts, which is extended to indigenous groups. He is experienced in drafting account agreements, client intake forms, and related documentation for financial institutions. Moreover, he provides guidance on the administration of estates and trusts.
He is currently a board member of STEP Canada and chair of the National Conference Committee, as well as an Editorial Committee Member for STEP Inside. He is also a member of the Law Society of Ontario, Law Society of Nunavut, Canadian Bar Association, and County of Carleton Law Association.
He obtained his LLP designation at the University of Manitoba and holds bar admissions in the Law Society of Nunavut (2017) and Law Society of Ontario (2008).
