Group Insurance is my passion. I ‘fell’ into this complex and ever-changing world after my father, who built Benefits Coordinators BCI Inc., asked me to follow in his footsteps. I spent over 20 years of my career at BCI. After the company was sold, I was given the opportunity to further my path at Health Source Plus, a division of People Corporation, where I continued to grow and develop relationships and further my knowledge. I am now Director of Consulting at Lafond + Associés, a longstanding well established Montreal based ‘’independent’’ brokerage. I’ve been invested in and believe in IFB since 2010 and excited to have the opportunity of contributing to its visibility and mission.
I was in the Internal Audit Department of The Alberta Liquor Control Board for 12 years prior to getting licensed, Executive Assistant of The Banff Park Lodge prior to that, and joined the military right out of high school.
My company is Aurora Capital partners Inc. I have been an independent since I got licensed. At ACP we put the needs of the client first; not the needs of the Corporation. Aurora Capital does traditional Retirement Planning, business and farm succession and estate planning, wealth transfer to the next generation. We work in a team environment with CA’s and Lawyers to achieve success.
In my spare time I chair a committee for the Town Of Strathmore – The Downtown Design Review Committee. I am the president of the Federal Conservative EDA of the Bow River Riding, I am one of the Campaign Managers of our Federal Candidate, and I was the Campaign Manager for our Provincial MLA in the 2012 election.
Elizabeth MacDonald has been a senior leader within the financial service industry as an independent financial advisor for 21 years. She has been passionately servicing her clientele since 1997. Elizabeth maintains that education should be lifelong, particularly in the financial services industry, as she continually attends workshops, seminars, and participates in online courses, to provide her clients the very best, knowledgeable advice possible. Elizabeth has been an active board member of IFB since 2015.
Elizabeth began her career in the health science field. In addition to establishing a small business, she was a faculty member at Sir Sanford Fleming College, teaching Anatomy and Terminology to RN, RPN, and PSW students, prior to beginning her career in the financial sector.
Elizabeth enjoys travelling, and spending time with her three children, and three grandchildren. Regularly, she practices yoga and meditation, or can be found hiking the trails of the Kawartha Lakes.
My career in Financial Services has drawn me across Western Canada. After graduating from the University of Manitoba in the spring of 1995 with a degree in Finance, I started my career in Vancouver as an independent life insurance agent with clients in Manitoba and British Columbia. This proved to be a challenge that almost bankrupted me.
During this early stage in my professional development, I learned several lessons about banks, money, and myself. A year and a half later, I received an offer to join Rice Financial in Brandon, Manitoba, and jumped at the opportunity. I had learned a hard lesson about how difficult it can be to start a financial career as an independent advisor.
It was during my time at Rice Financial that I truly learned the importance of delivering on a promise. Four years after joining the company, I became a Certified Financial PlannerTM charter holder. Eleven years after initially joining Rice Financial, I felt my development had peaked and I accepted an offer from Equitable Life to be a wholesaler for their investment products in Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario.
During my time at Equitable Life I realized that I belonged “out in the trenches”, helping everyday Canadians. I wanted to provide professional financial planning, responsible advice, and superior customer service and disclosure. After 3 years with Equitable Life and 14 years in the corporate world, I returned to my passion—helping Canadians understand the basics of responsible money management and financial planning.
